Who are “The Guides”?
What is their purpose?
Why should you connect with them?
The Guides are many. They serve multiple purposes. And they come from multiple sources. A Guide is simply that – someone who can help to lead you down a path, and hopefully point out the pitfalls and stumbling blocks along the way so that you don’t get stuck on them.
If you do get stuck, these guides can often offer advice that may help you get unstuck. Hopefully the Guides are able to help us learn valuable lessons along our journey. Ideally, we will have a solid relationship with our guides before we ask for their help, but they are there for us regardless of the status of our relationship with them. The better your relationship with your Guide, the better their support along your path.
There are many types of guides: Ascended Masters such as Buddha or Jesus, or Mikao Usui, the Founder of Reiki; Angels and Arch Angels; the Gods and Goddess of the world’s religions; the Christian Saints; mythical beings such as dragons, fairies, and gnomes; and even beings who have never been connected to this realm. Often our guides present themselves in a form that will be relevant and acceptable to us in our current frame of mind and understanding. They come and go in our lives, showing up as we need them, to support us through particular tasks or lessons and leaving just as quickly once we’ve learned our lesson.
In this book we touch upon a few “standard” guides who are generally around for a quite some time: our Lifetime Guide, our Reiki Guide, our Highest Guide for this moment, and our Patron God & Goddess.
Take time to nurture and strengthen your relationship with your Guides by learning their communication styles (see the section on the six clairs/page 255 at the back of the book for an introduction to communication styles) and learning to trust in their advice. The Guides will never steer you wrong; that is not their purpose. Their purpose in your life is to support you.
Your immediate goal is to learn to trust in their unconditional love and support.

THE EXERCISE: Connect with a Patron:
Everyone who wants to connect with a god can. It takes some time and effort to work with the deities. They aren’t like the guides – their purpose is not to serve you! They are here for their own purposes and pleasures.
In Paganism, we say that our deities walk beside us on our paths, but, as with any relationship, our friendship with our deities need to be nurtured and respected.
THE EXERCISE:
Connect with a Patron God:
Begin your connection to a patron god (Kojinteki no Kami) by learning about the many Pantheons in our world. Then choose one that calls to you. From there, learn about the gods within your chosen pantheon, and pick one with whom you’d like to connect. Learn about what this god likes; what pleases him, and how he can support you.
On the day that the Moon becomes Dark commit to a God you wish to connect with.
Prepare for your connection between the Dark Moon and the Full Moon. Take your time and don’t go into this lightly. Gather a candle in the god’s colour, his favourite flowers or foods, an appropriate incense, and whatever else you think honours the god you wish to connect with.
On the day of the Full Moon, at noon if at all possible, sit in meditation, and call out to the God, and ask if he is willing to work with you.

- If you have been attuned to the Distance Symbol, use it to build a bridge between yourself and the god, and invite him to meet you in the centre of the bridge.
- If you have been attuned to the Master Symbols. Use one to bring the highest Reiki energy to your experience with your new patron God, and share its vibrations with him.
